NOVEMBER had a busy end of the month for the South West Kickboxing Academy (SWKA).

Lauren Hutchings won the student of the month, her hard work has been greatly rewarded, adding to her award as most improved student of the year in 2013.

Head coach and fourth dan Steve Lilley and Cameron Warren-Carpinter both travelled to the MAAS championships at the Guildford Spectrum in Surrey. Steve helped with refereeing and judging at this national day event. Cameron entered the hollow square for the first time against another novice from White Lotus Martial Arts in Gloucester. Cameron put on a superb performance in a comfortable and unanimous win.

Steve said: 'Cameron's fight was one of the best bouts on the day and one of the very best performances I've seen from a complete novice.'

Steve also stayed for the evening show and instead of judging on the card at short notice he found himself competing.

He teamed up with master Jim Cockram to take on 10th dan grandmaster soke Brian Dossett, in a charity boxing match.
