Held over three weekends in January and February at the Life Centre, Plymouth, this event drew top competitors from clubs throughout the county.
Tavistock swimmers swam their hearts out and managed to achieve 86 personal best times with an incredible 33 of these resulting in club record times.
Over the three weekends, 12 swimmers qualified for and competed in age group and championship finals resulting in 13 medals between them – one gold, four silver and seven bronze. Senior swimmer Matt Edwards claimed the top prize in the 100m freestyle event in a life-time best time of 52.01 seconds taking home the championship shield.
Matt was also successful in the 50m freestyle skins event swimming each of his 50m freestyle legs in under 25s to claim victory.
Club head coach James Lake is very proud of all his swimmers.
He said: ‘This has been the most successful county championship in Tavistock’s history. Everyone improved their qualifying position, some gaining huge personal bests, and with the achievement of county finals, medals, championship medals and winning one of the biggest and historic trophy’s in Devon, Tavistock Swimming Club is really flying high. This is testament to their enjoyment in swimming and I really look forward to what the rest of the season has to offer.’
