Devon and Exeter three
University 3
South Zeal Utd 2
HAVING not played for six straight weeks South Zeal produced a good performance against University at Salmon Pool Lane on Saturday.
The visitors dominated the game but missed chances cost them in the end and University took the chances they were given and the three points.
The home side took the lead against the run of play after 15 minutes when one of their forwards latched onto a through ball and finished well at the near post. However, the rest of the first half was all South Zeal who should have ended the half 3-1 up but a mixture of good goal keeping by the University keeper and near misses from good chances, so they went into half-time 1-0 down.
The second half was all South Zeal and they equalised when Darren Gilbert put Harley Cann through on goal, who finished well from close range.
The visitors now looked as if they would go on to win all three points but the home side broke and went 2-1 up with a very good header from six yards.
South Zeal pushed on for the equaliser and again were hit on the break and the home side went 3-1 up after a shot was deflected past Reg Wonnacott in the visitors' goal.
With 10 minutes left South Zeal made it 3-2 when Stuart Entwistle's shot was saved by the Uni keeper but the rebound fell for Jamie Atherton to score from close range.
University did well to survive the final 10 minutes, as Tom Reilly, Redd Cann and Darren Gilbert all went close, but hung on to claim the win..
