THE ninth Son-Rise Cup football festival at the weekend in Tavistock was a huge success and saw thousands of people attend in difficult weather conditions. There were almost 500 footballers in the men's and ladies' tournaments beside around 80 youth and children's teams! The highlight of the event was the disability matches held at Tavistock AFC where severely disabled footballers enjoyed playing football along with the assistance of parents and carers. Robin Rich, chairman of the event, said: 'The ninth. The event has been a huge success which has brought out such good feeling in the Tavistock community. 'A huge thank you must go out to the hard and dedicated efforts by the event team who literally re changed about seven pitches to allow the matches to take place on day two after heavy down falls of rain put several pitches out of bounds! 'The positive feedback from so many clubs has made all the hard work worthwhile and so a few months off is the order of the day before plans are made for the 2015 event. Well done everyone!' The event was perhaps best described by one of the many volunteers who helped make the occasion so memorable when he told the Times:?'Just to see the smiles on the faces and the happiness of the disability players taking part and their parents was just priceless.' Monies made from the charity event will go to Action4Autism and a donation made to Help For Heroes.
