SUNDAY, October 21, sees the area's biggest race take place, the Tavy 7, organised by Tavistock Athletic Club.
This will see up to 500 runners tackling gently undulating, scenic, seven mile course starting on Plasterdown. Runners who want to take part should log onto the race website http://www.tavy7.com">www.tavy7.com to download an entry form. The club is grateful to Gibbs Kirby, Tavistocks newest estate agent for sponsoring the main race, while Tavistock sport shop Active Co, sponsor the Fun Run. The club also thank Abbey Garden Machinery, Brooks Running and Ambrosia for their support.
The main race starts at 12 noon and follows a well established route across Plasterdown to Warren's Cross, and then routes through Sampford Spiney before returning to Warren's Cross and the Start, always within sight of spectacular Pew Tor.
There is also an easy 1.5 mile Fun Run course over Plasterdown which is suitable for everyone except those in wheelchairs. Entry forms on the website which should be completed and then brought to registration on the day. The Fun Run incorporates a team event for local schools for the Tavy 7 Cup.
Drivers using the roads over Whitchurch Down and Plasterdown should be aware that there will be increased traffic in the area between 10.30 and 12 as runners arrive, and between 1.15 and 2.15 as they leave.
