Okehampton seconds 5
Dart thirds 0
OKEHAMPTON seconds started a little uncertain, when Dart caused some dangerous moments in the first half with several fine saves by Alice Wiseman stopping them from scoring.
As the game progressed Oke began to grow in confidence and control. Louise Weller at left back played with huge determination and panache and, with Rochelle Hillier as centre marker, pushed right forward into attack.
Oke created several close calls for Dart and three strikes on goal hit the post. Then Alex Collins, centre forward and quite determined, saw an opportunity and seized a gap in defence to score the first goal of the game near the end of the first half.
Oke increasingly had the upper hand with Anna Speak, Annabelle Rademaker, Liselotte Rademaker, Ailsa Gibb, Viv Weatherington and Holly Davidson demonstrating excellent ball skills and determination in midfield.
Fleet of foot Emma Wiseman was also having a good game. She took the ball down the right wing, crossed into the circle and lifted the ball into the goal over the opposition sticks to get Oke's second goal.
Dart was fighting back but Sandy Douglas as sweeper defused any attacks that began to look dangerous. It was not until Rachel Adams, eager and intelligent in the attack, scored Oke's third goal that Oke felt safe. Rachel scored Oke's third goal with a curving ball.
Rachel Adams, player of the match, scored fourth goal. This was followed swiftly by a fifth when Liselotte Rademaker made a cracking shot at goal from a short corner which deflected off the defence into goal.
Oke thus ended the first half of the league season exhilarated by a win.
n Okehampton seconds are at home next week with a friendly against Launceston, kick off at 2.30pm.
Oke ladies seconds 1
Exe fourths 1
OKEHAMPTON hockey ladies started well with the majority of possession for the first ten minutes. But the change of ends brought the low sun into Okehampton's eyes and they found themselves under pressure.
Exe were making it hard for Okehampton to feed the balls through the midfield but the skillful and determined play of Lissalotte Rademaker was too much for Exe. She was supported by wings Holly Davidson and Sophia Marshall.
Both teams were working hard and it was disappointing for Okehampton when an Exe player passed the defence and hit a shot on goal, this was deflected by goalie Alice Wiseman however Exe took advantage of the deflection and slotted it home with fifteen minutes to go.
With an exciting finale the forward line hit the ball up into the attacking D, passed it across and midfielder Viv Weatherington calmly pushed it into the net seconds before the final whistle.
