Devon Merit Bude seconds 12 Tavistock seconds 28 TAVISTOCK Seconds travelled to Bude for their first away game of the season and returned with a deserved, hard fought win. Not for the first time, Tavistock found themselves up against a much bigger and heavier set of forwards, but the visitors' pack put in a sterling performance, to subdue their opposite numbers. The first half was a fairly even affair. Tavistock opened the scoring when lock Tom Llewellyn forced his way over the try line. Bude replied with a try through their forwards. Tavistock's number 8, Dave Fraser, was next on the score sheet, but again, Bude replied through forward pressure. Nick Lane converted both Tavistock's tries and with Bude only converting one of their scores, halftime arrived with Tavistock leading 12-10. In the second half, Tavistock tightened their defence and did not allow the Bude forwards to get any momentum and the home side were unable to add to their score. Tavistock added two further tries of their own, the first following good handling from the backs and finished with a fine run from the halfway line by centre Gregg Moore. Moore, who had an outstanding match, then made a break from deep in his own half and after racing three quarters of the length of the pitch, gave the scoring pass to scrumhalf Niall Murphy, who was up in support. Lane added conversions to both tries, bringing the final score to 28 – 12. In what was essentially a good team performance from Tavistock, centres Moore and Lane were immense in attack and defence. Wingers Josh Birch and Rob Pratt both played well, Pratt suffered a bad wrist injury towards the end of the game. Prop Liam Mills scrummaged well while replacement forward Ben Jones made his debut towards the end of the game.
