DART LADIES’ 1
OKEHAMPTON LADIES’ SECONDS 3
OKEHAMPTON seconds travelled away on a grizzly day to face Dart in the Devon Trophy competition, their second fixture of the weekend.
The match started evenly, with both teams passing well and testing each other out.
Oke keeper Ella Kaye controlled the back, with defenders Amanda Sim and Laura Parsons blocking any hint of Darts’ efforts to score.
The visitors worked well all over the pitch distributing the ball wide and allowing joint player of the match Ellie Shayler to zoom up the left with Lucy Wiseman, cutting through the Dart defence. The resulting pass into the D found Lesley Bingham who nudged the ball past the Dart keeper to open the scoring.
Dart showed they were not to be underestimated however, and on a quick break fired the ball home at a narrow angle, leaving the scoreline equal at half time.
In the second half Oke took the game to Dart with midfield Hannah Gibbons linking up with wing back Nicky Pedrick driving right into the attacking D; unfortunately for Oke, hard defending from Dart prevented Oke’s efforts from succeeding.
Okehampton, though, kept their composure, and hungry for their next goal Hannah Whiteley found herself with a one on one with the keeper, who she triumphantly rounded to put them ahead.
The win was not secured yet however, so Oke kept pushing. A long corner from captain Sophie Whiteley found its way into the D for joint player of the match Elly Jenkins to slot home, ending the score at 3-1 to Okehampton much to their delight.
This win puts Okehampton through to quarter finals of the Devon trophy.

NEWTON ABBOT LADIES 2
OKEHAMPTON LADIES’ SECONDS 1
STARTING with a determined push back, Okehampton ladies’ seconds wasted no time in playing hard against Newton Abbot at Torquay Grammar School pitch this Saturday.
It was a tight game with both teams giving the match their all. Eleanor Marvin for Oke held the middle strong, yet it was the home side who scored first.
Determined not to let this happen again, team captain Anna Luxton saved a goal on the line while defender Carol Taylor kept the rest of the oncoming attack under control, making space for Emilia Bazeley to clear the ball with a strong sweep.
Going into the second half of the game, Okehampton wasted no time in fighting to equalise, Louise Weller intelligently held the middle of the pitch, while wing players Annie Strawbridge and Alex Collins made use of the width of the pitch.
Debbie Pritchard left her position of defender to aid Zoe Curtis in the attack, who scored Okehampton’s first goal.
Sophie Mugliston cleverly organised the press in an attempt to keep the ball in the attacking half, but some Newton Abbot players still got through with many shots on goal which were stopped by goalkeeper and player of the match Ella Kaye.
However, Newton Abbot grabbed the winner with just two minutes to go, leaving the final score 2-1 to the home side.
