Okehampton ladies seconds 7

Sidmouth and Ottery ladies fourths 1

DARK clouds and rumbles of thunder set the scene for the first hockey league match of the season for Okehampton ladies’ seconds.

The match started with an even distribution of play, but after 10 minutes Okehampton began passing the ball back to Anna Luxton, Debbie Pritchard and Rachel Hammet which gained space and possession allowing them to dominate the game.

More and more pressure was being applied to Sidmouth and Ottery’s defence, and Okehampton were being awarded more and more short corners. It was only a matter of time before the first goal came, and Emily Rowlands carried out the deed with a hard strike past the Sidmouth goalie. The next goal came when Zoe Curtis found herself in front of an open net and swiftly pushed the ball over the line leaving Oke 2-0 up at half time.

The second half continued with lightening and rumbles of thunder and once again Okehampton had tremendous confidence passing the ball around the back.

During one of numerous corners awarded to Oke’s Carol Taylor was quick to make sure her name was on the list of goal scorers.

Alex Collins soon scored the fourth goal, but then, in a lax moment, a Sidmouth player broke past Okehampton defence and found little resistance to scoring their one and only goal. However, Okehampton were on a roll, and in the last 10 minutes left wing Elsa Frangleton scored, followed by a second goal from Alex Collins and to finish off, the seventh goal came from right wing Ellie Shayler.

Zoe Curtis was voted player of the match.
