DOZENS of children took part in the Tavistock and Areas Inter-Schools Swimming Gala organised by Tavistock Swimming Club, Meadowlands and West Devon Borough Council.

Held at Meadowlands Leisure pool, nine primary schools from the area took part — Horrabridge, Lamerton, Mary Tavy and Brentor, Meavy, Milton Abbot, St Andrew's, St Peter's, Tavistock and Whitchurch.

The most sporting team with the best team spirit on the day was Milton Abbot School who won the fair play award.

Winner of the large schools section was St Andrew's with St Peter's coming second and Whitchurch third.

In the small schools category, Mary Tavy and Brentor came first, Meavy and Lady Modiford second, and Lamerton third.

The event was a great success due to the excellent work from the Tavistock Swimming Club volunteers.
