TEAM NLFitness from Tavistock took to the road on Saturday to take part in the ‘Monster Race’, a 10km obstacle course run at Escot Park in Exeter.

After weeks of physical and mental preparation, along with some last minute team additions, the group were raring to go!

Nick Lane from Team NLFitness said: ‘After making their way to the start line past flailing and very cold contestants that had just completed the course in waves beforehand, there was a very long pause. As with many events over the weekend, it wasn’t meant to be as the snow and cold wind came in. Race officials decided to cancel the race due to the extreme weather and a lack of medics to keep up with the weather based casualties.

‘So despite literally making it to the start line, Team NLFitness didn’t get the chance to shine and push themselves like they had planned, although a trip to the pub en route home was much welcomed.’

WITH the arrival of the mini ‘Beast from the East’ this weekend, many races for which the Bere Alston Trekkers had been training hard, were cancelled or postponed, including the Tavy13, the full distance Grizzly, and the Plympton Mad March Hare 10k.

One race that did start, albeit then had to be stopped, was Saturday’s ‘Monster Race’, a 10 kilometre obstacle course run based at Escot Park in Exeter.

Lady BAT Susan Williams entered as part of a team, and had managed to complete the majority of the course before race officials decided to stop the race due to the extreme weather and the difficulties for medics in keeping up with the weather based casualties.

Susan and companions worked hard in atrocious conditions to win their medals.
