Tavistock 15
Exiles 10
TAVISTOCK entertained the Exiles in the annual Boxing Day club rugby match at Sandy Park. A good crowd was there to see a well contested game played out on a heavy pitch.
Tavistock held the upper hand during the first half and established a 10-0 lead through two tries from skipper Andrew Schuttkacker, who led his side well.
The Exiles came more into the game after the interval and managed to draw level through tries from Sam Morton, who made the touchdown after a fine break by fly-half Gareth Mason; and also from Dan Luffman, with a trademark finish — reminding the crowd how much he is missed, following his move to Teignmouth to play in the South West One league.
Just as it seemed that the game was drifting towards a draw, the home side managed to grab a late try with a good run up the wing by Paul Wilcox to give Tavistock the welcome boost of a rare win.
Organisers thanked referee Kirk Lewandowski for officiating.
A touchline collection for the Devon Air Ambulance raised £117 for that good cause.
After the match players and spectators adjourned to the clubhouse to enjoy some well earned festive refreshment.
