Plymouth Argaum

Colts 12

Tavistock Colts 12

TAVISTOCK were caught cold by a well drilled and motivated Argaum pack who dominated possession for the first 20 to 25 minutes of this game.

Harry Jeans, Ben Luke and Richard Cann scrummaged well for the away side but Tavistock’s lineout did not function and they were second best at the breakdown.

Argaum scored their first try at the half way stage in the first half after they latched on to a loose lineout and raced away to score; this was converted. They shortly added a second after their full back raced through to score almost unopposed. This finally seemed to snap Tavistock into life and the forwards started to work through some phases and set up possession for their backs.

Quick defensive line speed helped them to put pressure on Argaum’s back line and Ethan Lamerton got up quickly to charge down a kick and gather the ball to score. Jono Wisdom converted.

Tavistock started brighter in the second half with Seb Cox making some powerful runs. Theo Cousins and Ben Luke also looked to try and get their team on the front foot. Tavistock still struggled at the lineout, however, and this hindered them at crucial times when they were unable to make good field position count.

Argaum’s lineout was working well and they used their catch and drive to good effect. Tavistock did look dangerous when they got the ball wide and perhaps did not use this tactic frequently enough.

Tavistock did persist though and eventually they got the ball wide to winger Jack Base who finished off a flowing backs’ move. This tied the scores and it was probably the Tavistock spectators who were more relieved to hear the final whistle 10 minutes later.
