Tamar Saracens 5
Tavistock first XV 29
TAVISTOCK ended their long wait for their first win of the calendar year, much to the expense of the already relegated Tamar Saracens.
The game was given the go ahead after an early pitch inspection but was very heavy under foot with both teams donning the same colours as players were saturated in mud within seconds of kick off.
It was the hosts who started the brighter with a deep kick putting Tavistock under pressure from the onset. Some good organisation in defence kept Saracens at bay despite a long passage looking after the ball. From this dogged defence Tavistock countered well; Mark Friend was the benefactor as he fended off a would be defender to score from 40 metres.
In similar fashion Aidan Mason playing on his preferred wing skipped two tackles to score despite some confusion on the grounding of the ball.
Tamar hit back strong with a try of their own after further pressure on the Tavistock line, and captain Schuttkacker bundled over to bring the half time score to 17-5.
The second half was yet again an enjoyable watch despite the torrid conditions. With the wind in the moorlanders favour, Friend doubled his tally in similar fashion. Stables converting.
Credit where credits is due to the hosts as they held Tavistock for large periods of the half. Schuttkacker finishing the game with a double only to be denied his hattrick when he fumbled the ball uncontested over the line.
