Tavistock seconds 17

New Cross seconds 19

TAVISTOCK welcomed Newton Abbot side New Cross RFC to Sandy Park – it is always a struggle for the club to field a second XV so with pulling in a few extra players and a couple second year colts stepping up meant the fixture could be played.

New Cross started well coming down the hill. Tavistock’s defence held strong for a while before New Cross opened up the scoring. The Moorlanders then hit straight back with a superb solo effort from Owain Stacey to level the score at 7-7 going into half time.

Tavistock did not start well after half time, conceding too many penalties that then resulted in a quick brace for New Cross. This woke the home team up and Tavistock were then dominant in all aspects.

Some great interplay in the backs came from Ed Nettleship and Josh O’Neill and there was hard and direct running from Tavistock man of the match Callum Thompson.

A try from Carl Parsons and Tom Wood brought the score to 17-19 and the come back was on.

Unfortunately for the home side a few to many handling errors and strong New Cross defence meant Tavistock could not go on to win the game.
