Round robin tournament at Devonport RFC

AFTER what seemed a short break, Tavistock RFC were back in action on Friday against local Plymouth combination clubs Devonport RFC and Old Technitions. Hosted by Devonport, the evening saw four sides compete against one another in a round robin 10-a-side tournament.
Despite having a number of personnel absent due to work commitments. Tavistock fielded a strong 14 man squad and exceeded their expectations in leaving the Rectory undefeated.
Up first for the Moorlanders were Devonport Reds and it did not take long for Mark Friend to find a gap in midfield to go over for an early score. This led to an excellent passage of play that saw Tavistock dominate possession with much success around their breakdown and offloading completion.
Charlie Charlton was next on the score sheet as he picked a good line to go over from 15 yards. Devonport struck back despite some dogged defence from Jack Jones to go in under the sticks but it was Friend who had the final word completing his brace to bring the final score to 17-7.

TAVISTOCK took on Devon two champions Old Techs. With much of their game based around hard running, Tavistock were forced into defending large periods of the match.
Eventually the deadlock was broken as the Techs went over from close range. PJ Wilcox who had a great tournament at number `nine, orchestrated an excellent passing move which saw Hadfield and Turpin link well to see captain Schuttkacker over for the levelling score.

THE final game was again an excellent advert for the style of rugby the Moorlanders wish to play this season.
Tired legs took their toll on the players but not the standard of play as Friend once again found the whitewash. This was to be the only score of the game; however, Tavistock looked threatening throughought, in particular Richard Cann and George Lightfoot, both of whom are embarking on their first sole season in the seniors!
n Tavistock wish to welcome spectators to Sandy Park on August 12 where they host Paignton RFC in the first of three pre-season first XV fixtures. 3pm kick-off.
