Tavistock RFC firsts 5
Plymouth Argaum
firsts 26
TAVISTOCK embarked on their shortest away journey to face a Plymouth Argaum side with only one win this season.
With many injuries including that of captain Schuttkacker, it was going to be a tough encounter but one they felt should still be winnable.
It was a case of ‘deja vu’ for the Moorlanders as they were made to pay for a slow start going 19-0 down in 30 minutes. The first two tries coming in similar fashion as Argaum’s busy 13 capitalised on two Tavistock mistakes to intercept and score unopposed. The third try came as the result of a lengthy period defending on Tavistock’s own line and the visiting number eight finishing a series of short picks.
The second half did not start too brightly for the home side as Argaum sealed the bonus point with quick hands resulting in their open side bursting down the wing.
It was at this point the Tavonians seemed to wake up. Cockcroft coming off the bench to make his debut made himself known around the park and hooker Maslen was once again prominent in the loss.
With the slope against them Tavistock did eventually manage to improve at the set piece and after much dogged defence Mark Friend broke free to score a consolation in the dying moments.
