TAVISTOCK 14

PIRATES AMATEURS 16

IT was another near miss for the Moorlanders as they were edged out by Cornish visitors Pirates Amateurs at Sandy Park on Saturday in a close fought match.

Although third from bottom in the league, Tavistock had enjoyed two consecutive home wins before this game. They deservedly led in the first half with a try by their captain Andrew Schuttkacker and a penalty from George Hillson.

The Penzance side replied with two penalties from Dan Rhys-Evans as the teams went into the interval 8-6 to the home team.

In the second half, Hillson added two more penalties for Tavistock and Rhys-Evans replied with one for 14-7 to the Moorlanders. However, with 15 minutes to go the turning point was a fine Mawgan Osbourne try for the visitors and Rhys-Evans tipped the balance to the Cornishmen.
