Kingsbridge Colts 23

Tavistock Colts 12

TAVISTOCK Colts contested this fixture strongly and will have been disappointed to have come away with only a losing bonus point.

The visitors started well and spent large parts of the first half camped in the Kingsbridge half but they could not make a series of scrums and lineouts count.

Kingsbridge attacked the short side effectively and some neat handling from their backs saw them race up the wing and score under the posts. Tavistock came back again and pressed the Kingsbridge defence. Flanker Morgan Warnett thought he had scored but the referee judged his effort to have been a double movement.

Kingsbridge however, were clinical and whenever they got into the Tavistock half they took their opportunities; when offered a penalty they kicked confidently to add the extra three points.

Again Tavistock were undeterred and when scrum half George Hillson made a darting break from the base of the scrum and off loaded the ball to Warnett, he picked the ball off his toes to score.

In the second half Kingsbridge soon added three points from a penalty but Tavistock were showing good ball retention, Forwards Theo Cousins, Harry Jeans, Ben Luke and Will Gardner all competing bravely at the breakdown. Hooker Joe Holbrook showed good accuracy with his lineout throwing and made a couple of telling drives up the pitch.

Tavistock worked their second try by going through about ten different phases of play until George Hillson saw a gap and broke through before putting centre Ethan Lamerton through to score under the posts. He then kicked the conversion to bring Tavistock to within a point. Tavistock looked to push on for the win and number 8 Cameron McKie charged through only to be tackled a couple of metres from the line. Alex Lewandowski tackled strongly and secured an excellent turnover earning his side a penalty and keeping them on the front foot. The Tavistock backs Dom Hall, Billy McNicol, Jono Wisdom and Ben Milligan all looked to run the ball from deep and frustrated Kingsbridge with their quick footwork. Unfortunately for Tavistock they couldn’t find the winning score and as they tired Kingsbridge added another penalty kick. In the final minutes the strength of the Kingsbridge bench told and they secured the win after breaking through and scoring under the posts.
