THERE were 45 top 10 positions, which included seven bronze medals, three silver medals and 12 gold medal winners from the 23 members of Tavistock Swimming Club who competed in the Devon Sprint Gala at the Plymouth Life Centre.
All the swimmers were required to complete in all the 50m events — freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly. In this highly subscribed gala, the Tavistock members achieved some excellent results.
The 23 members raced in 92 races, achieving 72 personal best times, with 10 swimmers achieving personal best times in all four of their events.
Alex Hobbs and Jake France achieved a clean sweep of gold medals in their age group sections, while Jessamy Clemens achieved three golds and one bronze medal.
Top three places in their respective age groups were also achieved by Ieuan Noakes, first in breaststroke and third in freestyle; Amber Francis was second in both the breaststroke and freestyle; Alex Francis, third in breaststroke and freestyle. In butterfly, Laura Meredith was second and Alfie Morgan was third, while Daisy Morgan was third in both butterfly and backstroke.
Head coach James said there were brilliant swims from everyone and it was great to see the younger members gaining experience, with the swimmers producing good swims from their hard work in training.
Also competing at the gala were Olivia Bates, Sam Bates, Callum Burden, Cater Davis, Emily France, Ryan Lillyman, Ellie McCall, James Meredith, Hamish Noakes, Elena Prior, Lucie Prior, Morgan Turnock, Charlotte and Hannah Walker.
