THIS years Buckland Bounder broke all previous records attracting entries from running clubs both locally and further afield including Tamar Trail Runners, Bere Alston Trekkers, Tavistock Athletics, Plymouth Musketeers, Plymstock Road Runners and Storm. 

A new course record was set by first time Bounder Jake Hughes.  A field of 163 set out from picturesque Buckland Monachorum during the summer fair on Saturday and enjoyed a scenic hilly route over the moors to Grenofen, following the river and heading up to Berrator. 

The men’s race was won by Jake Hughes, setting a new course record time of 38 minutes; second place Andy Connor in 39.07 and third place William Dax in 39.31. 

The women’s race was won by Maddie Horton in a time of 43,23, second Rachael Tarrant in 50.57 and third Catherine Shortman in 53.09.

Taking the Drake Manor Shields for fastest male and female local were Jake Hughes and Samantha Febrey respectively, Samantha taking the title for a third consecutive year in a time of 54.43, smashing her previous course record by nearly 3 minutes.

The second Buckland Bouncer children’s race, also attracted a record number of entries.  Front runner Harrison Kirk-Potter led the field of 44 along the local footpaths to loop around the Garden House and back to Buckland Monachorum, ably assisted by rear runner Lisa Birch. 

Results: Garden House Shield fastest boy – Charlie Cannone, fastest girl Holly Connor.

Key stage 2 – 1 William Kilkelly, 2 Orlando Seaney, 3 Elliott Seaney; girls 1, Tamzin Jarman, 2 Grace Gokhale, 3 Polly Coldron. Key stage 3 boys – 1 Charlie Cannone, 2, Matthew Moore; girls – 1, Holly Connor, 2 Molly Jameson.
