OKEHAMPTON A won their first friendly game of the new hockey season against an experienced Duchy side.
This young Okehampton team had all the early pressure, with Ed Howard and James Rogers holding the midfield together well and created some excellent through balls for their forwards to run onto. Luxton and Osman kept up well with the pace of the game.
They nearly took the lead when the impressive Jack Watson cut out a square pass across the home sides D but his attempt on goal was cleared by Duchy's last man.
Central defensive pair of Tim Morgan and Alex Osman were finally beaten when the Duchy player ran through the middle of the Oke defence and a flicked ball cleared the advancing George Morgan. to make it 1-0 to Duchy. Okehampton A continued to work hard work at the start of the second half and they were rewarded when Adam Cockayne played in Luxton who broke into the D, and slipped an inch perfect pass to find Lawson who drilled the ball passed the keeper for the equaliser.
New players Hayden Perrior and Tom Hutchings for Oke made impressive contributions at left and right half. Away keeper George Morgan pulled off a combination of save to keep the score level.
Stuart Jarvis for Oke proved a real handful out on the right wing.
Chris Luxton was denied as his flick was blocked on the line.
Alex Osman returned from injury to the field to bolster the Okehampton defence.
A string of short corners for the away side finally saw the winner late in the game when a shot from Jack Watson was deflected in via the stick of James Rogers.
Oke player of the match went to Tim Morgan.
