MID Devon Pony Club members braved Saturday’s horrendous weather conditions to compete in the Eggesford Pony Club’s triathlon held at Okehampton.
The Mid Devon mini boy’s team of Christopher Wrey, Harry Robinson, Archie Philips and Saxon Terry started the day well, with all four having great shoots.
Archie shot a superb 940, which was his personal best score. The wind and rain kept on coming and the 1,000 metre run appeared to be round a paddy field, there was so much water lying on the ground. Christo put in his usual fine run, finishing with the best time in the class.
Finally escaping the weather the competitors had the challenge of the swimming pool and here Christo and Archie both did well, after such a gruelling run, to swim personal bests.
When the results were posted, Christo had finished second in the class, Harry sixth, and in the team event, Mid Devon did superbly to finish in second place.
There were 25 entries in the mini girls’ class, and Casey Plaskett did well to finish seventh. She was another in fine form in the pool, swimming a personal best. In the same class, Biba Waddell was competing for the first time and did well to cope with the challenges of the shooting range; she and Casey were in a team that finished in fourth place.
Tom Bayley represented Mid Devon in a sadly depleted senior boys’ class, winning comfortably, helped in part by the fact that his main rival could not compete, due to a broken collar bone!
The members thanked the organisers of the event for running it so smoothly in the face of such appalling weather.
