THE Bank Holiday weather did not deter the runners from turning out for the Peter Tavy Plod Trail run.
The five-mile race is now in its nineth year starts with a vertical rush to the highest point on the course at Stephen's Grave and local runner Ben Neale in training for the upcoming Chicago Marathon led a small group to the summit.
Gradually, however he was overhauled as the runners worked their way back to the village and pre-race favourite Adam Holland secured the win, in a time of just over 27 minutes, ahead of Okehampton's Olympic torchbearer Andy Vallance with Ben making up the podium places.
Perhaps the run of the day was 14-year old Jordan Channon who came home in fifth place overall shattering his own junior course record by 4mins 46 secs.
Completing the trophy winners were Rebecca Mingo, first female, James Crisp veteran 40, Steve Watson first local, Emily Attfield retaining her junior female crown and Jane Jackson, female veteran.
However, the real highlight of the event was the junior fun run over one mile, where the average of the finishers was a staggering seven years of age, led home by 10 year-old Angus Dixon in 7mins 22 secs.
Organiser Peter Chanter said: 'A big thank you to all the runners who braved the conditions; the Original Pasty House for their sponsorship, the Peter Tavy Inn for their support and Louisa, Barry and all the marshals without whom the event just would not happen. See you all next year for the 10th anniversary run.'
