LAST weekend marked the start of the triathlon season for Tavistock athlete Pete Jarman.

A trip to Dawlish on the South Coast of Devon saw nearly 100 competitors take part in the first aquathlon of the series organised by Exeter Triathlon Club.

The event started with the novice race and was followed by the sprint race which consisted of a 600 metre pool swim  immediately followed by a 5km run.

Pete, competing in the sprint race, finished in 25th overall position and took first place in the male youth (15-16) category.

Pete completed the race in a time of 33.34 (9.10 swim, 24.24 run).  This was a great result as Pete, aged 14, was one of the youngest competitors to take part in the event.

Pete, a year 10 pupil at Tavistock College, trains with Tavistock Swimming Club and Tavistock Athletic Club and is a member of Plymouth Triathlon Club.
