TAVISTOCK Swimming Club showed an impressive leap forward in the individual times of its swimmers in the Devon Sprint Gala held at the Plymouth Life Centre.
The statistics for the event were staggering, with 96 personal bests out of 112 events that the 29 swimmers took part in. Out of these swimmers 14 achieved a clean sweep of personal bests in every event. They were Luke Botham, Jessamy Clemens, Emily France, Jake France, Alex Francis, Freya Gronow, Emily Handel, Joshua Lake, Cameron McGurk, Laura Meredith, Roseanna Milburn, Ieuan Noakes, Luke Stephens and Sarah Teague.
In the final age group results, with swimmers ranging from the age of 10 to 22, the club achieved 30 top ten finishes, with 13 of those within the top three. The swimmers who achieved a top three finish were, Emily France, 10, (two silver), Jake France,12, (one silver), Joshua Lake, 22, (four gold), Cameron McGurk, 16, (three silver) and Luke Stevens, 13 (one silver and two bronze).
With swimmers from almost every club in the county represented; the gruelling 204-heat gala was a long event for the swimmers to keep focused on but in the end, with the support of their fellow swimmers and parent helpers, the long wait was worth it.
