Okehampton Running Club entered a record six teams with good results. Roger Voaden, Andy Vernon, Adrian Vernon and Paul Carter won the mens' veteran team category – the third year in succession that ORC have won the prize.
Jo Fletcher, Karen Vallance, Jo Camies and Jane Jackson came second in the women's vet team category. The other womens veteran team came fifth with the senior men and senior women teams each finishing sixth and a mixed team, who had to run as men's veterans came a creditable tenth.
There was also a good turnout from the ORC at the popular Haytor Heller fell race. After a silence held in respect of the recent tragedy nearby the runners were sent on their way on the tough but beautiful six kilometre route. Roger Voaden was the first member home coming 21st overall in 47 minutes 39 seconds (second MV45). Close on his heels came Rob Kelly 48.34, Gavin Punchard 48.40 (third MV45) and Paul Crease, who had stopped near the end of the race to assist a runner who had been taken ill, 49.34. Marilyn Cooper finished in 1hr 04mins 12 secs (third FV55) with Claire Kelly, who thoroughly enjoyed her first fell run completing in a good 1.10.09
n Detlef Schoenfield and Jane Jackson took part in the Chudleigh Carnival Road Race, a hilly five and a half miler with good support from the crowds. Detlef posted 43.31 and Jane 46.12 (second FV55)
n At the Pyworthy 10K, Paul Carter finished in sixth overall place in 41.48, a UKA silver award and Mags Jarvis took part in the Chelmsford Parkrun while visiting her daughter finishing in 24.36 (2FV55) and a UKA gold award
n Okehampton Running Club's Great West Fell Run takes place on Saturday, starting at 2pm from Meldon Dam. This is a five mile run to Yes Tor and High Willhays, then it's all downhill to the finish.
Entry is £5 on the day. Prizes for the first three men and women, veterans categories.
