TAVISTOCK Son-Rise Football Cup has received a recent boost thanks to a local opticians. Specsavers, on West Street, sponsored the women's tournament of the Son-Rise Cup for the third year running with Illogan Ladies from Cornwall taking home the coveted trophy after travelling 160 miles to take part in the event. The Son-Rise Cup for Autism is in its ninth year. This year it played host to around 120 teams from across Devon and Cornwall and is now a registered event with the FA. The ladies' event had the most entries to date this year with 14 teams taking part. Sarah Routly, store director at Specsavers in Tavistock, said: 'Everyone at the store was delighted to have sponsored the Son-Rise cup. It's always a great day out and the team love getting involved. It's so important for local businesses to support their local clubs and we are very proud to have sponsored the championships.'
