Teign 1
Okehampton 1
A TRIP to Dawlish on a fine Saturday afternoon in early September was the perfect setting for Okehampton's first hockey friendly, or so they thought.
In an open affair both sides failed to assume any real control although the visitors did manage to create more chances but were unable to take them.
The away side gave starts to Jake Lloyd up front and Simon Bourne on the right. Both played excellently with tireless work rate and some quality play.
Oke took the lead after 20 minutes from a short corner with skipper Mark Parsons slotting the ball between the keepers legs. Parson was then yellow carded and with the first half coming to a close the rain started to descend.
A thunder shower left both sides struggling to hold sticks and keep their footing let alone pass the ball to each other.
The weather did calm down and after half time the hosts started to dominate, creating more chances.
Good defending kept them at bay and man of the math Will Cooper, Jonny Aylen and Zac Middleton made some last ditch tackles to keep the ball out.
Teign scored when their striker was tackled but the loose ball fell kindly to another team mate who left keeper Hayden Bond with no chance.
The visitors rallied and started to play - Lewis Day and Luke Liversidge became more influential and the centre midfield started to be controlled by Sam Whalley and Joff Stephens.
Nick Luxon found Parsons who in turn fed strike partner Jake Lloyd an he beat two defenders before seeing his shot come back off the post.
This was a good work for Okehampton.
