OKEHAMPTON LADIES’ THIRDS 0

EXE LADIES’ FIFTHS 0

THIS was a good game to watch but in the end it was a frustrating result for Okehampton who should have won this match.

They dominated possession and territory, particularly after the break but Exe defended extremely well.

It could have been much worse for Okehampton though for early on in the first half Exe were awarded a penalty when the ball struck an Oke defender’s foot on the goal line.

Fortunately for the home side, it was not the strongest of penalties and Carol Newcombe got across her goal quickly and saved it with ease.

With some regular players out this weekend, there was a new look to the team and it took a while for them to get their game going.

Jess Moyse found room in the middle of the pitch for Oke and quickly chased down the opposition to gain possession of the ball. Joey Drake, back from injury, was sound in central defence and although they were not under a great deal of pressure for the most part, Sandy Houston, Lois Rowlands and Sarah Bazeley dealt efficiently with the Exe attack.

Most of the Oke play came down their right-hand side where Sophie Tripp was afforded plenty of space which she used well and put in a number of dangerous crosses into the circle.

The best chance for Oke came when left wing, Eleanor Marvin, played a good ball into the circle to player of the match Ella Kaye; she slipped it across the face of the goal away from the out coming Exe goalkeeper and it looked as though forward Izzy Rowlands was going to get to it but in a frantic goalmouth skirmish, Exe scrambled the ball away.
