ELEVEN schools from all over West Devon took part in the West Devon Sportshall Athletics Championships at Tavistock College on January 26.

With the assistance of young leaders from the college, who ran the field events, a very successful — and noisy — afternoon of athletics was enjoyed by all.

RESULTS: Top individual scorers — standing long jump — 1st boy, Nicolas Maczugowski (St Peter’s), 1st girl, shared equally between Ella Whitford (St Peter’s), Amy Keast and Jessica Warren (North Tawton); speed bounce — 1st boy, Sheldon Higgins (Whitchurch), 1st girl, Ella Whitford.

Vertical jump — 1st boy Nicolas Maczugowski, 1st girl, Bea Kinnear (St Peter’s); chest push — 1st boy, Xavier Davey-Wright (South Tawton), 1st girl, Annie Woock (St Andrew’s).

The top three teams were 1st, St Peter’s, 2nd, St Andrew’s, 3rd, South Tawton.

St Peter’s go through to the county finals at The Life Centre in Plymouth at the end of February.

Organiser Mhairi McCall from Okehampton Community and Recreation Association thanked Keith and Jayne Reed who, once again, officiated over the relay races so efficiently.
