THE multi-terrain route of the Imerys Trail Marathon near St Austell is challenging and unique taking the runners through the lunar landscape of the clay pits on land regenerated from the industrial past of Cornwall's china clay industry.

The record turnout included several members from Okehampton Running Club. In the full marathon, Roger Voaden, just two weeks after completing the North Dorset Village Marathon, put in a great run on this tough course to finish first for ORC and 21st overall; he was followed closely by Nick Seccombe and Rob Kelly.

Katie Littlejohns, Ali Holliday and Carole Cornwall enjoyed the half marathon — all of them putting in good runs with Katie, back on form after injury, leading the way.

Times: Marathon: Roger Voaden 3.29.30, Nick Seccombe 3.30.40, Rob Kelly 3.34.08, Marilyn Cooper 4.55.10 (first FV60). Half marathon: Katie Littlejohns 1.53.43, Ali Holliday 2.17.12, Carole Cornwall 2.17.18.

In the Bideford 10k Stuart May was in the fourth placed mens' team with Andy Vallance, Andy Vernon and Chris Turner.
