IN division one, of the Okehampton and district table tennis league despite Naomi Jackson scoring a fine maximum, Okehampton A lost 4-6 against Academy.
Ben Hill, Tom Pearce and Tom Pengelly all won two singles each, John Squire took on the two Toms just losing out to both in the fifth legs. Naomi and Sarah Jackson beat the two Toms to win the doubles.
In the next match Bridestowe fought a hard match against Academy, finishing with a 5-5 draw. Mark Tancock scored a fine maximum for Bridestowe who lead 5-4 after the singles but Ben Hill and Tom Pengelly won the doubles against Mark and Francis Griffiths to level the match.
In their next match Academy took on league leaders Tavistock. Ben Hill beat Peter Hicks 3-2 sets in the first game. Tom Pearce put Academy 2-0 ahead beating Kevin Davies 3-2 sets.
Dan Howell pulled one back for Tavistock against Tom Pengelly, then Academy stepped up a gear winning the next six singles for an 8-1 lead. Fred Phillips and Peter Hicks won the doubles against Tom Pearce and Ben Hill but Tavistock tasted defeat for the first time as Academy won 8-2.
In the last division one match Anchorage won their second match of the season against the mixtures 8-2. Bob Davis scored his second maximum of the season in straight sets. Steve Tyler won two singles for the mixtures Malcolm Hopkins and Colin Jones both won two singles but Colin had to work hard to beat Martin Rose 3-2 sets. Bob and Colin won the doubles against Martin and Steve to win the match 8-2 for Anchorage.
The only division two match, Milton Abbot A were at home against Moretonhampstead. In the first game Otilia Pochat beat Ken Underhill 3-2 sets in a hard fought five leg game.
Tim Westcott beat Richard Underhill and Ian Osborne beat Paul Brodey who was playing his first league match, to put Milton Abbot 3-0 ahead. Ken beat Tim to make it 3-1, Milton Abbot then stepped up a gear taking the next five singles and the doubles for a 9-1 win. Ian Osborne beat Ken in the last singles 3-2 sets to complete his maximum.
