OKEHAMPTON A hosted a Plympton Grammar School Old Boys' side in their first Davis Wood league game after the Christmas break to kick off the second half of the season.
Both sides started strongly, with each having an even amount of possession, although the Okehampton back four rarely looked threatened with Tom Hutchings and Alex Osman easily thwarting their attacks.
Okehampton always looked dangerous on the break with the pace of wingers Simon Bourne and Brett Lawson creating chances for the home side.
With Okehampton piling on the pressure, they were soon awarded a short corner which was coolly converted on the line by Jaden Read to make it 1-0. Soon after captain Brett Lawson doubled Oke's advantage with a skilful reverse hit finding the corner of the goal.
Okehampton midfield, marshalled by Tim Morgan, gained more control in the second half and put more pressure on the PGSOB defence. The lively Okehampton forward line continued to create chances and it was not long until Okehampton added to the scoreboard when man of the match Jake Lloyd found himself at the top of the D and a reverse strike hit the roof of the net.
PGSOB responded well and raised their game and some incisive tackling and well anticipated interceptions from John Jarvis were needed to nulify their threat. The home side continued to pressure the PGSOB defence and after good link up play from Brett Lawson and Chris Luxton, Jake Lloyd found himself with a simple tap in from a deflected shot.
This excellent result maintains Okehampton A team's 100% record.
