Penzance A 3
Tavistock A 0
THE annual bout of 'Penzanceitus' kicked in for the Tavistock A men's hockey team, but with less damage than normal due to the larger squad and links with Mount Kelly College.
Penzance started the brighter, moving the ball around but Tavistock stuck to the formation and marshalled the attacks with some ease.
Matt Pugsley, playing in goal for the first time, was a formidable presence and marshalled his defence well. John Ball and Toby Stanyer, playing their first game this season, looked bright on the left and linked well with the defence and attack. Toby took a nasty injury to the head during the second period and had to go to the hospital.
Tavistock nearly broke the deadlock when the attacking Tom Hanson linked with Phil Honey and drove into the home D, but the powerful shot hit the post.
The game really was a spectacle of end to end hockey but it was three mistakes that let Penzance score easy tap in goals, for a score line that did not reflect the game.
Tavistock fought to the end and had plenty of chances to get themselves onto the score sheet, but could not quite get that last touch. It was a grreat effort by Josh Walker and Harry Donnelly, who both took took the attack to Penzance.
Tavistock A 0
Marjon D 7
MISSING a handful of players, Tavistock took a step backwards this match and due to structure, shed a lot of second half goals.
Competing well in the first half and only a couple of goals down, Tavistock were in the game, but the formation went astray and no amount of effort could keep them in the game.
The young players of Marjons passed the ball with ease and the tiring legs of the home side finally capitulated.
