A LADIES' Texas Scramble three team open was a new fixture at Tavistock Golf Club and proved very successful with 31 teams taking part.  The winners with a net 66.8 were Jayne Wright (Tavistock), Alison Down (Saunton) and Kathy Williams (Staddon).  The Perranporth team of Karen Furness, Sarah Shobrook and Angie Chapman were second with net 67.6 and, in third place, was the Tavistock team og Belinda McSherry, Dawn Philott and Hilary Picton with a net 68.9.  In the ladies' Stableford Nicky Gawman topped division one with 38 points; second Bridget Luckham 37pts on count back from Angela Trembeth and Bev Ruth. With an excellent 40pts Sue Stewart was first in division two; second Peggy Burge 37pts and third Julie Harding with 35pts. First in division three was Joy Tynan 36pts; second Barbara Porter 31pts and third was Anne Williams 29pts. In the men's Major Porter Medal scoring was close. In  division one Dean Dickerson had a net 69 on count back from Adam Bridgewater and David Young, followed by four other players all on net 70.  First in division two and winner of the medal was Dave Symons with net 64; second Keith Maskell net 69 and third was Harry Hopcroft with net 73. Lewis Reid had a net 66 in division three; second Rex Ingram net 71 and third was Jerry Bawden net 72.  The men veterans played for the Bill Briant Trophy which was won by Will Spearing with a net 69; second David Young net 71 on count back from Dave Treble and Ian Gasper. The men scored a narrow victory over the men veterans five and a half to four and a half to win the Wally Hammond Trophy. The juniors played for the Frank White medal — a 36 hole medal competition played on the same day. This year's winner was Will Stenhouse with a net 141 (one under par); second with a net 142 was Tom White (level par) and third with a net 144 (two over par) was Arun Caines.
