KELLY College Swim Squad took 25 swimmers, ageing from 11 to 18 years-old, to the British Gas Swim Wales Winter National Championships held at the Wales National Pool in Swansea.
For some swimmers this was their first taste at national level, with some pleasing results including 90 personal best times, five school age group records broken, seven golds, eight silvers and five bronze.
Kelly's youngest gold medallist was Nathan Linden (12) from Brentor who won gold in the boys 11/12 years 200m butterfly in a new Kelly age group record of 2 minutes 45.21 seconds. George Humphrey (16) took three gold medals in the boys 16 and U 200m and 400m IM and the 200m breaststroke as well as a silver in the 100m breaststroke.
Erin Walsh (15) won two golds in the girls 15U 100m and 200m backstroke. Erin also broke her own Kelly age group record for the 100m backstroke.
Oliver Willis (16) swam to gold in the boys 16U 50m backstroke in 29.16 and bronze in the 100m backstroke. Molly Redford (15), despite being out the water with a broken finger for the past month, won two silver medals in the girl's 15U 400m free and 800m free and bronze in the 200m free. Molly, in the 100m freestyle, broke the Kelly age group record with a time of 1.01.74.
In the boys 16U Matthew Courtis (16) took silver in the 200m and 400m IM and the 400m free and bronze in the 1500m freestyle. Ben Staig (12) won two silver medals in the boy's 11/12 years 100m free and 200m backstroke. Leah Picillo (14) in the 400m individual medley for 15U girl's won bronze while Beth Watmore (13) swam to bronze in the girls 12/13 years 200m breaststroke. Lucy Sanderson (17) set a new Kelly age group record in the 50m butterfly with a time of 29.48.
Other swimmers with personal best times: Chloe Barrow, Charlie Bayliss, Thomas Brew, Christy Gold, Georgia Jones, Cara Layden, Jemma Layden, Sam Lewis, Will Luckham-Down, Robert Nielsen, Russell Oliver, Jack Pearson, Charlie Tod, Joe Voller and Harry Wardle.
