ALL Year 4 pupils from Tavistock learning community were invited by to attend a multi-sports day at Tavistock Track earlier this month.

Organised by Mhairi McCall of Okehampton Community Recreation Association and with coaches from local organisations, almost 300 children were given ten-minute taster sessions in sports activities.

Tavistock Athletic Club chairman Martin Exley-Deane ran a hurdles station; Alan Berry of Tavyside Badminton Club was there along with Jess Veacock of Little Ruckers.

Mark Wickett had the children playing football; North Tamarside Fencing Club ran a popular station; Steve Lilley of Sculpting Fitness gave the children some tips on self-defence; OCRA coach, Ryan, had the children throwing a vortex and completing an obstacle course, and there was Vicki who introduced the children to gymnastics.

Mhairi McCall said: ‘The day ran smoothly with the excellent assistance of the Tavistock College young sports leaders who rose to the challenge of demonstrating, leading and encouraging the younger pupils at all the stations.

‘The weather was also glorious which meant that everyone — teachers, teaching assistants, parent helpers and coaches enjoyed their day out to Tavistock Track.’
