A SMALL contingent of Okehampton Running Club travelled west to the Cornish coast to take part in the Mouth to Mouth 10k organised by the National Trust in conjunction with Bude Rats.
This lovely scenic race, now in its third year, starts from Sandy Mouth cove taking the coast path south to Northcott Mouth before turning inland across fields, tracks and woodland paths to arrive at Coombe village.
From there a short stretch of road takes the runners back to the coast path at Duckpool, just a mile from the finish. Within this last mile however are the two steepest climbs and descents of the race, of lung-bursting severity.
The runners returned to Sandy Mouth for the finish where a full scale cliff rescue was taking place. One of the race's runners had arrived early attempted to climb up the cliff. Having got stuck half way he was eventually winched off by helicopter.
First ORC home was Jane Jackson, taking the FV55 prize in 58 minutes 24 seconds, followed by Mags Jarvis who claimed the second place FV55 in 1hr 05mins 54secs. Sarah Haigh, having only recently returned to running with the club after a long lay-off due to family commitments, thoroughly enjoyed her first race for many months to finish in 1.10. 15.
