Eight pupils from Mount Kelly took part in the Mountain Training Hill Skills course at the weekend on Dartmoor.

The course was the first of many progressional training courses offered by the national awarding body, the Mountain Training Association. It aims to improve personal navigation and skills when out in the countryside environment, covering planning, clothing and equipment, weather, navigation, environmental impact and hazards and emergency procedures in the hills. These skills will prove to be useful when pupils take on the Ten Tors and their Duke of Edinburgh challenges.

The Mount Kelly U13 girls’ hockey team reached the semi-finals in the Devon Cup, defeating Blundell’s 1-0 in the quarter-final stage.

They played against Exeter School in the semi-final, losing 1-0, however, in the third place play-off, Mount Kelly defeated West Buckland 1-0. It was a credible performance from Mount Kelly over the course of a superb day of hockey.

Mount Kelly rugby first XV beat Sheldon School in the Natwest Schools Bowl on November 27 to secure their place in the quarter-finals of the competition.
