FIFTEEN schools, represented by more than three hundred runners, took part in the annual primary schools cross country competition at Princetown earlier this month.
On a cold but dry afternoon there were four races, two of them West Devon Championship runs.
First to go, led by OCRA 'hare' Dan Luffman, were the year 3 and 4 girls.
The individual results were: 1, Beth Scott, Horrabridge; 2, Liberty Knapps, Lifton; 3, Beth Foster, Whitchurch. Horrabridge won the team event with Whitchurch the runners up.
Dan then led off the year 3 and 4 boys: 1, Josh Craddock. Lewtrenchard; 2, Kebba Murch, Tavistock; 3, Will Paxman. Lamerton. Horrabridge again won the team event with Lewtrenchard the runners up.
The Year 3 and 4 event was the West Devon Championships and Horrabridge girls and boys now go on to represent West Devon at the county finals in Exeter on April 1.
The Year 5 and 6 event is normally decided over three cross country runs at St Peter's, Lamerton and Princetown. However, this year, due to flooding, the St Peter's race was cancelled so there were results from only two races.
Individual results from the girls two runs: 1, Alice Bickley, Whitchurch; joint 2, Helena Woodbridge-Harris, Horrabridge and Lucy Peck. Lifton.
Tavistock won the girls' team event with Whitchurch coming second. In the boys: 1, Josh Monk, Horrabridge; joint second Harry Dwelly, Tavistock and William Russell, Lifton.
Horrabridge won the boys' team event with Whitchurch coming second.
With Whitchurch coming second in both the year 5 and 6 girls' and boys' team events they are the overall winners of the schools championships, with Tavistock runners up and Horrabridge third placed.
