THE Moorland Ladies’ Darts League held its finals and presentation Night at the Union Inn at Tavistock earlier this month.
Chairwoman Mrs Molly Bickell presented a cheque for £600 to Bernice Edgar and Winston Martin of Tavistock Area Support Services, a charity which provides help, support and information to local people, their families and carers in the Tavistock area.
The league held three charity events during the season – a quiz night, a darts night and a bingo evening to raise money for this cause. Organisers thank the many businesses who helped to make it happen.
At the darts night the winner of board one was S Freeman with P Gliddon as the runner-up; board two winner was M Fisher, runner-up W Cann. The overall winner of the darts charity night was M Fisher of the Prince of Wales with a total score of 476; runner-up was S Freeman of the Cornish Inn, 404.
The league winners for 2017/18 were the Prince of Wales, Princetown and the runners-up were the Tavy Traders, Tavy Club, Tavistock. The recipients of the wooden spoon were the Plume of Feathers, Princetown.
The winners of the Knock-out Cup were the Tavy Traders, runners-up Prince of Wales.
The singles’ competition was won by G Edge-Downing from the Prince of Wales, runner-up C Richards from the Duke of York, Tavistock.
The doubles’ competition was won by L Harford and G Edge-Downing from the Prince of Wales, runners-up S Holmes and P Gliddon from the Union Inn.
The mixed doubles was won by S Freeman and B Nash of the Cornish Inn, runners-up G Edge-Downing and J McLaren from the Prince of Wales.
The threes was won by S Holmes, E Monk and P Gliddon of the Union Inn, runners-up S Freeman, W Cann and A Howard from the Cornish Inn. The fours was won by L Pollard, C Dyson, D Fox an J Galway from the Duke of York, runners-up S Freeman, W Cann, A Howard and N Curtis from the Cornish Inn.
The Captain’s Cup was won by M Fisher from the Prince of Wales, runner-up S Holmes from the Union Inn.
The Prince of Wales won the awards for the most team tons with a total of 52 tons from league matches during the season and the most team wins with 34.
The award for most individual wins was won by W Cann from the Cornish Inn, G Edge-Downing and M Fisher from the Prince of Wales and J Dean from the Tavy Traders by winning 12 out of 14 singles games during league matches. The award for the most individual tons was won by M Fisher of the Prince of Wales with a total of 21 tons gained during league matches.
The award for the highest shot away, W Cann from the Cornish Inn with a score of 146 away. Highest shot out, S Holmes from the Union Inn with a score of 119. Highest score (not including 180) L Pollard from the Duke of York with 171.
A 180 was achieved by Z Brinkhurst during the mixed doubles competition.
Most sporting team and the Handicap trophy both went to the Plume of Feathers.
The pre-season doubles winners were S Freeman and L Harford, runners-up J Dean and W Cann.
