Plymouth and West Devon four

Yelverton Villa 1

Chaddlewood Miners 4

THIS was a top versus bottom of the table clash and for the first 45 minutes it was Villa who looked the stronger side, taking the game to Chaddlewood from the first whistle and denying them the space to play their football.

Time and again Villa pressed Chaddlewood in their own half, and shots from Jonny Leppert, Ben Maughan, Tom Goswell and Colin Murray peppered the Miners' goal, but it took until the 30th minute for Villa to break the deadlock.

Having chased down everything, lone striker Leppert finally reaped the reward for his effort when he put pressure on the Chaddlewood keeper, forcing him to rush his clearance which fell nicely at the feet of Dave Harwood, who calmly chipped the ball over the retreating keeper to give Villa the lead.

The Miners pushed forward strongly but without any real incision but scored an equaliser with the last kick of the half, when a free kick was swung into the box and fumbled by Villa keeper, Martin Harris, who allowed the ball to slip through his hands, which was pounced upon by the Chaddlewood striker.

Chaddlewood took the lead five minutes into the second half when the Miners' striker had a clear run at goal to fire home. Two minutes Villa's Adam Measom was adjudged to foul in the area and Chaddlewood increased their lead from the penalty spot.

Villa battled hard to a man. Steve Harwood showed great passion and commitment driving the team on from defence; while Colin Murray came close with a rasping shot from distance; but Villa left themselves vulnerable to the counter attack and a 70th minute strike by Chaddlewood wrapped up the game.
