IN division one of the Okehampton and district table tennis league Okehampton were at home against North Wyke A.

Okehampton went into a 2-0 lead as John Squire beat Mark Tooth and Steve Tyler beat Xubo Chang. Enrique Cancer-Barrota pulled one back in a hard fought five set victory against Steve Madge.

Xubo Chang won the next game against John to level the scores at 2-2. Steve Madge then beat Mark Tooth and Enrique Cancer-Barotta. Xubo and Enrique won the next two to level the scores again at 4-4. Steve Tyler won his last singles against Mark and teamed up with John Squire in the doubles to secure a 6-4 win for Okehampton.

Milton Abbot were at home against Anchorage A. Colin Brooker did well in the first game beating Ottila Pochat 12-10 in the fifth leg to put Anchorage ahead. Ian Osborne levelled the scores before victories by Malcolm Hopkins against Michael Blatchford and Colin Brooker against Ian Osborne put Anchorage 3-1 ahead. Colin Brooker went on to win his last singles match to score a fine maximum and put his team 5-3 ahead. Ottila won the last singles against Colin and joined Michael to win the doubles to clinch a 5-5 draw.

Okehampton A were at home against the Mixtures. Okehampton raced into a 7-0 lead but Karen Stevenson prevented the whitewash beating John Squire in four legs. Sam Drew and Steve Madge both scored maximums but had a harder job in the doubles, narrowly beating Roni Gallardo and Sarah Jackson 12-10 in the fifth leg. The result meant a 9-1 victory for Okehampton.

Bridestowe were up against league leaders Tavistock, and Mark Fogerty put Bridestowe 1-0 ahead by beating Peter Hicks. Roger Bowkett won the next against Francis Griffiths and Nigel Gildart beat Phil Down. Francis did well to beat Peter Hicks to level the score at 2-2. The league leaders then won the next five singles with Roger Bowkett and Nigel Gildart both scoring maximums, though Roger had to pull out all the stops in his final singles match against Mark Fogerty, winning 12-10 in the fifth leg. Roger joined Peter Hicks in the doubles against Francis and Phil Down, with Roger and Peter winning 12-10 in the fifth leg - as Tavistock won the match 8-2.

In division two Okehampton C scored a 10-0 win against North Wyke B.

Moretonhampstead were at home against Horrabridge B. Moreton could only field two players, yet Ken Underhill put Moreton 1-0 ahead against Jill Northey. David Stew levelled at 1-1, winning 15-13 in the fourth leg against Richard Underhill.

Ken won his next two matches, Richard lost his next against Andrew Frazer in the fifth leg, though Ken and Richard won the doubles against Andrew and David, with Horrabridge B winning 6-4.
