The New Year's Day Brown Willy Run organised by Mounts Bay Harriers is known as the definitive hangover cure for all runners.

With the seven mile route going from the Jamaica Inn to the top of Brown Willy and back over the wettest, muddiest going Bodmin Moor has on offer this is probably true.

Although not classed as a race it tends to get competitive especially with a prize to the first male and female runners home.

Mags Jarvis from Okehampton Running Club took on the challenge, collecting several bruises from falls, and was delighted to pass several other runners both on the outward and return journey finishing in 85 min 33.

The 'O My Obelisk' race – a tough elevenish mile off road race – run by Dawlish Coasters, took place in good weather but the route had to be diverted adding some extra roadwork due to the wet conditions.

This race provided another great result for ORC's Andy Vallance who excels in this type of race. After the first mile he was on his own having left nearly the entire field of 200 runners behind!

Although not quite able to catch the eventual winner, David Tomlin of Teignbridge Trotters (1.14.46), Andy took second place overall in 1.15.50.
