Okehampton men seconds 1

Teign A 2

ALTHOUGH this was an important relegation battle both teams played some attractive and free-flowing hockey throughout.

In the opening exchanges the ball moved swiftly from end to end but with Tim Morgan starting to break up Teign’s midfield play and Caleb Bourne making incisive runs from the back, Okehampton looked on top.

However, it was Teign who opened the scoring when their first shot at goal after it was half-blocked but deflected into the goal.

The home side responded well, creating numerous chances but were unable to find the net. Teign were awarded a short corner on the stroke of half time and converted it to put them 2-0 up.

Okehampton played some of their best hockey of the season in the second half and dominated the match.

Brett Lawson used his experience to control midfield and youngsters Will Ash, Jacob Smith and Charlie Glanville used their passing skills to great effect as the home side rained in shots at goal. Whenever Teign did attack, man of the match John Jarvis thwarted their efforts with well timed tackles and vital interceptions. Eventually, he found Stuart Jarvis, who was causing Teign major problems with his switch to centre-forward, with a quickly taken and accurate free hit. Jarvis smashed the ball home to pull a goal back. However, only three minutes remained and Okehampton were left wondering how they had lost to a team who only managed two shots all match.
