Devon Division A
Tavistock v Sanford
TAVISTOCK 1st XI won the toss and asked Sanford to bat first on a good batting track.
Chris Hutchins made a breakthrough in his first over, but otherwise he and Jay Stevens struggled to hit good areas consistently, allowing the batters to get off to a flyer.
The spin trio of Sean Cleave, Jamie Stephens and Shaun Daymond bowled well and the introduction of seamer James McGahey, earned Tavistock full batting points having dismissed Sandford for 225. This was a fine effort considering at half way they were on target for 300.
Missing regular openers, it was always going to be a challenge. Wickets fell regularly and it took an outstanding innings of 71 from Jamie Stephens, playing shots all round the wicket to give the home team a chance. Sean Cleave batted well and James McGahey batted in his style, hitting an aggressive 30 before holing out on the boundary.
Tavistock fell short, but with lots of positives and returning players, look well set for the second half of the season.
Sanford beat Tavistock by 54 runs.
