A TAVISTOCK father and son were delighted with their efforts at the Plymouth Ocean City Half Marathon last Sunday.

Times’ advertising executive Allan Herdman, a member of Tavistock Athletic Club, not only finished a more than respectable 90th place from the 3,300 entries but he was also first in the male 60 category in a time of 1 hour 30 minutes 01 seconds.

He was joined in the 13-mile run by his son, Harry, aged 17, who ran his first half marathon with the minimal of training but achieved his sub-two hour target coming in with a time of 1hr 56 mins 21 secs. Harry was so excited about the achievement that he has signed up for the charity Oxfam to run in the Great North Run in September with his dad.

No doubt Harry enjoys following in his dad’s running shoes — though he has to catch up with him first!
