THE Beavers, Cubs and Scouts of the 1st Lifton Sea Scouts held a sponsored 'Channel Triathlon' to raise finds for their troop last month. The idea was to run, bike and swim a combined total distance of the English Channel — the running and cycling took place in Coronation Park, Launceston and then moving inside to the nearby Phoenix Leisure Centre for the swimming element. Despite challenging weather conditions, there was an excellent turn out, and the children all ran, biked and swam far in excess of expectations, with more than 100 miles totalled by all — a distance enough to cross the English Channel and back, twice! Ann Barriball, the Sea Scouts' secretary, said: 'A big congratulations to all the children for their amazing efforts — and to the group leaders for putting on such a well-organised and fun event.'
