TAVISTOCK Squash's second team played their opening match of the new season at home against a new team, Plymouth Life Centre.

The home club were represented by Simon Powell, Luke Wakley, Richard Davies, Robin Burdfield and Matthew Smith.

Life Centre proved a good team which included a former U19 county level player.

Simon Powell lost 0-3 against Plymouth Life Centre's number one while Matthew Smith started well, going up 2-0 and almost clinching the match in the third, but his opponent's greater experience told and he eventually lost 2-3. Robin Burdfield and Richard Davies both went down 1-3 against decent opponents.

Luke Wakley played an experienced opponent in a great game, which constantly swung one way then the other. The Tavistock player kept his head which, combined with some great touches, gave him victory 3-2. It saved Tavistock from a whitewash and made Luke the club's man of the match.

This season Tavistock have two teams playing in the Plymouth Company Squash League and we are always looking out for new members to join in.
